Ghana, China trade hit US$7.3 billion

Trade between Ghana and China stood at US$7.3 billion, making Ghana the 7th largest trading partner of China in Africa in 2018, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang has disclosed.

The volume of trade between the two countries hit US$6.67billion in 2017.

 He attributed the increase to the strong demand for Chinese products by Ghanaians and measures put in place by both countries to leverage the long standing relations between them.

Mr Wang said this last Thursday at the launch of new Changan CS95 and CS55T by Stallion Motors distributors of Hyundai, Audi and Skoda vehicles in Ghana.

 He said due to fast growing nature of the Ghanaian economy, the demand for automobiles would be bigger stating that “I think Changan International Corporation is wise to seize the opportunity and the export of high-tech heavy equipment like automobiles can remarkably optimise the trade structure between China and Ghana.”   

Formally, he said most of Chinese exports were light industrial products such as textiles and electrical home appliances but now there was a significant increase in the export of heavy equipment such as automobiles which he indicated could boost the bilateral trades of both countries.

Mr Wang said China had also held the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) every year  in china , which  provided merchants  to market  products made in Ghana

The Brand Manager of Stallion Motors Ghana , Manish Daryanani,  said Changan officered  value for money  in terms of iconic  design , comfort,  pricing , intelligent safety  features and prompt after sales  service.

 He said the vehicles come with five years warranty or 100,000kms on all model range and suitable for the African terrain and weather.

Mr Daryanani  said Changan in China means ‘Lasting safety’ and that as the name connotes, the safety arrangements in the production of the Changan car brand was high.

He stated that the cars were produced with contemporary technology in mind including sensor, alarm systems and finger sensitive technologies.

The Country Director for Stallion Motors Ghana Limited, Mahesh Mahtani, said the launch of the new models added to the range and showed the company’s commitment towards bringing quality and affordable range of vehicles to Ghanaian customers.
