Two young men, who allegedly conspired and stole an unregistered Haojin motor cycle, were remanded into police custody by the Enchi District Magistrate Court.
Francis Arhin, also known as (aka) Destiny, and Joshua Banteye, who were reportedly arrested by the police in Jema following a tip-off, would re-appear on April 24, 2019
The pleas of Arhin and Banteye, were not taken when they appeared before the court. Mr Eric Baah Boateng, was charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing.
Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, the prosecutor, told the court that the complainant Benard Quaicoe, a farmer, resides at Yiwabra, in the Aowin municipality, and the accused lived in the same vicinity with the complainant.
The court heard that on April 11, 2019, Arhin rented the complainant’s unregistered motorcycle at a fee of GHȻ10.00, under the pretext of travelling to Achimfo.
Banteye, who was waiting for Arhin at the outskirt of Yiwabra, joined him and they rode to Jema without the consent of the complainant.
Detective Sgt. Agyare said when the accused arrived in Jema, they attempted to sell the motorcycle for GH¢1,800.00 to some people in the town.
The complainant after waiting for several hours and with was no sign of Arhin returning his motorcycle, started searching for Arhin in the nearby villages, but to no avail.
According to the prosecutor, the police in Jema upon intelligence arrested Arhin and Banteye together with the unregistered motorcycle.
The complainant later got to know of the arrest of the two, and submitted the documents covering the motorcycle to the police for inspection.
Detective Sgt. Agyare told the court that during inspection of the motorcycle, the police detected that the chassis number in the document tallied with that of the unregistered motorcycle in their custody.
