Hundreds of women in the Soe Central Electoral Area have pledged their support for Isaac Adongo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central, in anticipation of the elections scheduled for December 7 of this year.
The women, including traders, artisans, and weavers, have also pledged their backing for the NDC’s presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming presidential race.
The Soe Women’s Association made the pronouncement on the sidelines of a campaign rally held at the Soe Central Electoral Area.
Mrs Mabel Atinga, a leader of the association, stated that the women in Soe were expected to provide a 90 per cent endorsement during the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, owing to the “life-changing” projects initiated and implemented by the lawmaker.
She noted that the extensive women’s empowerment initiatives implemented by the MP had not only transformed the lives of women but had also positively influenced numerous adolescent girls within the community.
Mrs Atinga said the achievements of the current MP had motivated many women in the region, and the best way to express their gratitude was to honour him with substantial votes.
This, she said, would allow the legislator to return to parliament and advocate further assistance to enhance their living conditions.
“Isaac Adongo has done a lot for us. He has helped us with financial support when we approach him in times of crisis. He has also consistently helped our children pay school fees to access tertiary education. He has also fixed a collapsed bridge in the area which was a ‘death trap’ to commuters, especially during the rainy season,” Mrs Atinga disclosed.
Azelekumah Atinga, another prominent member of the association, stated that the residents of Bolgatanga were well aware of the MP’s commendable performance.
She said her colleagues present could confirm that his achievements were unparalleled, which was why so many have chosen to attend the gathering.
She advised the electorate to refrain from adopting a “skirt and blouse” approach, as it would be detrimental to the progress of the party.
Addressing the rally which prominently featured hundreds of party enthusiasts, Mr Adongo said he would pursue a lot of development projects to advance the interests of the Bolgatanga Central Constituency if he got the nod at the polls.
He alleged that the government led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had relegated the entire Upper East Region to a state of preoccupation with basic survival, attributing this to what he termed “painful economic hardship.”
He expressed concerns that corruption had permeated all levels of society and claimed that the current administration was passively observing as the nation deteriorates.
Consequently, he urged voters to oust the NPP government and support the candidacy of former President Mahama, advocating his return to address the challenges faced by the Bolgatanga Municipality and the broader region.
