The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested on September 29, 2026, at separate locations in Sang in the Mion District.

In a statement, the Police said preliminary investigations had established that the victim was abducted on September 25, 2026, by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence before demanding GH¢100,000 from the family for his release.

It said the victim later managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers to safety in Sambu, where he was taken to a clinic for medical attention.

Police personnel subsequently proceeded to the facility and engaged the victim, who told them that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men.

According to the statement, the victim managed to escape from his captors and was assisted to safety by the farmers.

The Police said the victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from photographs presented to him.

Further investigations, it added, indicated that the suspects were linked to other robbery incidents in the area.

The three suspects were currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices.

The Police said investigations were also continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping and the roles of other persons who might have been involved.
