The Sogakope Police are on a manhunt for three suspected armed robbers, who shot dead a 35-year-old man at Hlevi, near Sogakope, in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region Tuesday.
The gun wielding masked men forcibly entered the house of a mobile money merchant at about 1:00 am with noise which attracted occupants, including Justice Akorli, the deceased, who came out after hearing some occupants screaming for help.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Public Affairs Director of the Volta Regional Police Command, told journalists in Ho, yesterday, that as the gangsters began breaking the door of the merchant, the occupants of the house screamed for help.
That prompted Akorli to come out from an adjoining room.
DSP Tenge said the intruders shot Akorli in the abdomen, after which they also fired indiscriminately and fled the scene.
She said that the victim was rushed to the Sogakope District Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to DSP Tenge, a team of crime scene experts had visited the scene “to conduct a reconstruction and an analysis of the incident.”
She said two empty shells of BB cartridges were found at the scene.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Volta Region, DCOP Edward Kwateng, has appealed to the public for information to arrest the suspects.
“We will leave no stone unturned in the search for the suspects,” he assured.
The incident has left people of the area in a state of great fear and anxiety.
