Four persons have been remanded in police custody for allegedly robbing, and raping ten women within Adenta and its environs, by an Accra District Court on Wednesday.
Ebenezer AmakyeAdom, 30, leader of the gang, Paul Nyamelor, 23, Joel Alornyeku,27, and EbenezerTawiah, 29, who were remanded by the court presided over byOhenebaKuffour, are expected to re-appear on November 24.
Their pleas were not taken.
The Director of Public Affairs Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph BenefoDarkwah, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.
He said the gang lured their victims, between the ages of 20 and 30 years, for a photo-shoot.
DSP Darkwah said in the process, they lured their victims into the bush, robbed them of money on their mobile phones, raped and took nude pictures of them.
He said the police arrested the suspects within Regimanuel Estate and Apolonia City Estate, following several complaints to the police.
DSP Darkwah said on November 8, 2021, the police intelligence led to the arrest of Adom, who had created an instagram page dubbed ‘’Phone shop’’ to invite young women for advertisement and lured, rob and raped their victims.
He said a search conducted in his room revealed assorted Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), a desktop computer and a router.
DSP Darkwah said three other accomplices, Nyamelor, Alornyeku and Tawiah were apprehended at Kobekrom in the Kpone Katamaso district
He cautioned the public to avoid honouring invitation on social media platforms from faceless individuals.
‘’Do due diligence of pages they are following and ensure they follow pages that are verified, ’’DSP Darkwah said.
