The Director General in charge of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, said the IGP’s Special Operations Team arrested 50 suspects involved in narcotics, comprising 46 males and four females during an intelligence-led operation at the Madina Market enclave on May 7, 2026.

Briefing the media on the anti-narcotics operation at the Emergency Command Centre of the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Friday, COP Teye Cudjoe said preliminary screening established that the suspects included 25 Ghanaians, 13 Nigerians, nine Nigeriens, one Malian, one Togolese and one Burkinabe national.

He identified Abigail Oko, aged 26, and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerien national, as alleged kingpins within the criminal network, while Yusif Abubakar, aged 25, and Amadu Alfani, aged 43, both Nigerien nationals, were identified as shop owners allegedly engaged in the sale and distribution of narcotic substances.

According to COP Teye Cudjoe, items retrieved during the operation included 230 boxes of Tramadol valued at GH¢130,000, 49 boxes of wrappers valued at GH¢26,000, 10 parcels of Indian hemp valued at GH¢15,000, 13 boxes of crushers, mobile phones, scissors, knives and other suspected narcotic related materials.

He said the estimated street value of the recovered exhibits was GH¢200,000 and that all the suspects and exhibits had been conveyed to the National Operations Directorate Headquarters for further investigations and necessary action.
