Six persons, including three Chinese nationals, have been arrested by the Western Regional Police Command in connection with the murder of a 45 –year- old man at a galamsey site at Gwira Ampansie in the Nzema East District of the Western Region.
The deceased, identified as Angu Mensah, an Abusuapanyi of Gwira Ampansie, was allegedly shot during a misunderstanding at the mining site.
Those arrested have been named as Hamza Abubakar, 36, Hamidu Seidu, 42, Francis Biewose, 26, Bai Yaozheng, 36, Liu Gang, 43, and Wen Xien Wen, 45.
A statement by the police copied The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said personnel at Axim received a distress call on Sunday at about 1:20 p.m. reporting a shooting incident at the mining site.
A team from the Axim Police Command together with officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate proceeded to the scene for investigations.
There, preliminary investigations revealed that at about 11:45 a.m., a misunderstanding ensued between Angu Mensah, now deceased, and some persons at the site, during which one Alfred Sadick, also known as “Strong Man,” allegedly shot him in the chest.
Angu Mensah was pronounced dead on arrival, it stated.
The body has been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The six arrested were currently in police custody assisting with investigations while efforts were underway to arrest Alfred Sadick, who remained at large.
Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police Command have appealed to members of the public with credible information on the whereabouts of Alfred Sadick to contact the Regional Police Command or the Axim Police to assist in his arrest, the statement signed by Superintendent of Police , Olivia E.T . Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command concluded.
