The Accra Community School (ACS) emerged winners of the maiden Ghana Inter-School Soccer festival after prevailing over Peculiar International School 2-0 in the final on Friday at the Abelenkpe AstroTurf in Accra.
Put together by the Ghana Inter- School Festival, an NGO in Accra, the one-day event was aimed at unifying and identifying talents in schools.
The event attracted 12 schools including Jireh International School, Dodi International School, Peculiar International School, Dominion Christian Academy International and Accra Community School.
The rest are Ghana Christian International High School, Delhi Private School, British International School, Morgan International Community School, Akosombo International School, Wright International School and the International Community School.
Speaking at the event, Principal of Accra Community School, Ali Taleb, said winning the trophy forms part of the school’s mission to give the children a solid foundation.
Ali Taleb said plans were in the pipeline to extend their project of a football academy to other regions so that every young talent can be part of their long term goals.
He added that ACS was opened to partnership from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) as well as the Ghana Football Association (GFA), adding that they have already put measures in place as they hope to partner some clubs outside Ghana.
A Coach at ACS, Kennedy Darko, said the school’s academy started in September and the result showed the commitment and hard work of the children.
The entire team were presented with a medal, certificate and souvenirs from the sponsors while Prince Osei Yirenkyi, who emerged the Best Player, took home a cash prize of Gh¢1,000.00.
