Ghana Women’s Premier League and FA Cup Champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, beat Amis Du Monde of Togo in their first group game of the WAFU B qualifiers on Sunday in Benin City.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies were originally scheduled to face AS Garde Nationale of Niger in their first match on Saturday, however, the team withdrew from the competition due to the ongoing unrest in Niger.
Ampem Darkoa took the lead early in the first minute of the game via Mary Amponsah before Amis Du Monde drew level in the 17th minute.
Joe Nana Adarkwah’s Ladies restored their lead a few minutes later when a goalkeeping howler from Amis Du Monde’s shot stopper, was pounced on by Mary Amponsah in the 21st minute.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies had several opportunities to increase the lead in the first half but failed to do so.
Back from the break, Mary Amponsah grabbed her third goal of the game in the 55th minute to give her side a 3-1 lead, before she added her fourth of the day in the 65th minute.
Amis Du Monde managed to get one goal back in the 84th minute to make it 4-2.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies will now face Atletico FC in their second group game of the competition on Friday, as they look to qualify for this season’s CAF Women’s Champions League. —Citisports
