 Athletics: Team Ghana assured of govt support … ahead of World Championship in Tokyo

 The Sports and Recreation Minister, Mr Kofi Adams, has assured members of Ghana’s athletics team to compete in the World Athletics Champi­onships of government’s fullest support and challenged them to give the world a good show.

The World Championship is slated for capital city of Japan, Tokyo, on September 13-21.

Addressing a virtual meeting of the Ministry, Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and members of the athletics team, Mr Adams praised the efforts and sacrifices of the atheletes and their coaches.

According to him, government would soon announce an incen­tive for all performing athletes as a way of encouraging them to keep working hard to win laurels at the highest stage of sport.

The meeting was organised by Ghana Athletics to boost the team’s morale and preparedness for the highly anticipated event.

Others in attendance were the GOC President, Mr Richard Akpokavie, GA President, Mr Bawa Fuseini, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, Madam Comfort Selby, Agbokitcher, all Vice Presidents of Ghana Athletics (GA) and the athletes.

The discussion centred on athletes’ needs and requirements, plans to provide necessary sup­port and resources to facilitate their participation, support for the athletes to travel with personal coaches, remuneration, camping allowances and future imcentives.

It also discussed the importance of mental preparation, maintain­ing focus and discussed strate­gies to help the athletes manage pressure and stay motivated for the championship.

Mr Akpokavie commended the athletes for their dedication, dis­cipline, and teamwork that earned the the qualification to represent Ghana at the championship.

“This championship is a step­ping stone toward greater global success, and we remain confident it will lead to podium finishes on the world stage and sooner, at the Olympics,” said Mr Akpokavie.

The Captain of the team, Jo­seph Paul Amoah, expressed the team’s honour to represent Ghana on the world stage and he is con­fidence in their ability to deliver a strong podium performance to make Ghana proud.

Team Ghana comprises of Joseph Paul Amoah, Fuseini Ibra­him, Barnabas Aggerh, Mustapha Alufu Bokpin, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Alex Amankwah and Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah.

Team Ghana is expected to compete in men’s 4x100m, 100m Men by Benjamin Azamati and Abdul Rasheed Saminu, 200m Men by Ibrahim Fuseini, 800m Men by Alex Amankwah and High Jump Women by Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah.
