Bechem United midfielder, Kofi Tompuo, worsened the woes of Kumasi Asante Kotoko as he volleyed home the only goal to condemn The Porcupine Warriors to third successive Ghana Premier League (GPL) defeat at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem yesterday.
The 26th-minute strike from behind the centre circle zoomed straight into the net to earn the Hunters their third victory of the season.
Asante Kotoko enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but agile goalkeeper of Bechem, Aziz Haruna Dari, and great defending from Baba Moro Abdulai and Yaw Acheampong denied Kotoko the equaliser.
Twice in the 29th and 42nd minutes, goalkeeper Dari saved to deny Kotoko; first stretching to parry over the bar a header from defender, Joseph Ablorh, and then saved Emmanuel Antwi’s goal-bound strike.
Back from the break, Kotoko continued to enjoy a greater share of the possession but lacked the penetration to hurt the Hunters.
Kotoko brought on Peter Amidu Acquah and Nigerian import,
Fernando Wisdom Bassey, six minutes from time but failed to turn things around for the Reds.
With the defeat, Kotoko dropped from the third spot to sixth on the log while Bechem climbed to seventh on the log
