The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) will stage a pre-independence bout between the elite national team (Black Bombers) and the national youth team (Black Rockets) on Saturday, March 4 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
According to a statement signed by the president of the GBF, Mr Bernard Quartey, the event forms part of the efforts and strategies of his outfit to present a formidable team of Bombers to represent Ghana at upcoming tournaments that include the next year’s Africa and Paris 2024 Games.
The potentially enthralling bonanza will be used to select the best boxers to represent Ghana in the light flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, light welterweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and minimum weight contest for both male and female.
The statement added that there would be special bouts among selected national female team members (Black Hitters).
In the men contest, William Adofo will face Sheik Daniels, while Caleb Mensah and Ramsy Boamah Addy battle it out in the minimum weight category (48kg).
The light flyweight (over 48kg) will see George Dowuonu take on Wisdom Barnor, while in the flyweight (over 51kg), Theophilus Allotey battles Ebenezer Ankrah with Abraham Mensah facing Amadu Mohammed in the bantamweight (54kg).
In other bouts, Philip Quansah slots it out against Isaac Kakrabah in the featherweight class (54kg), while Joseph Commey and Bernard Abbey clash in the lightweight (60kg) category.
Walid Omar will fist out with Jerry Lartey in the light welterweight; Alfred Kotey and Sherif Mohammed cross swords in the welterweight, while the middleweight will see Abdul Baki Adams and Rexford Aruna Coffie face off as Jonathan Tetteh and George Yaw Akoto also duel in the light heavyweight.
The female division will see Ramatu Quaye take on Janet Acquah, while Elizabeth Boagie battle Mary Torgbor with Anatu Mohammed facing Janet Adjei.
Other bouts will see Sarah Apew fight Perpetual Okaidja; Faruza Osman battle Winnie Abubakar with Nasara Fuseini taking on Trudy Manteaw.
