The Bono East Regional Police Command on Tuesday arrested four persons for allegedly manufacturing weapons illegally at Zabaraba near Kintampo.
The suspects all blacksmiths are Dokurugu Zakaria, 31, Paul Yeboah, 45, Timothy Gyarko, 39 and Daniel Akuamoah Boateng, 55 years were apprehended at their various shops.
They have also been accused of allegedly assembling and repairing of all sorts of weapons.
The Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Amponsah Bosie Dankwa, briefing the Ghanaian Times yesterday at Techiman said the intelligence led operation successfully retrieved eight gun butts, four gun barrels, four gun bridge blocks, 14 used and six live cartridges, two garden gun cartridges and host of gun implements from the suspects.
The PRO noted that other items namely military camouflage bags and hats were retrieved from Timothy Gyarko, and traced the ownership to his brother, who is a military officer at Tamale.
ASP Bosie Dankwa disclosed that other weapons manufacturing materials were also retrieved at the suspects’ houses upon a thorough search.
The Regional PRO indicated that the suspects are in custody and the exhibits retained for further investigation.
ASP Bosie Dankwa reiterated the readiness and commitment of the Regional Command to deal with criminal elements in the Bono East Region saying that “with the support of residents, we shall overcome the criminals”.
