Retired Ghanaian boxer, Briamah Kamoko, affectionately called Bukom Banku, has advised up and coming boxers to take their craft seriously and eschew behaviours with the tendency to destroy them.
According to him, the young boxers must not joke with boxing because it was a serious business which requires discipline.
Speaking to The Times Sports on Wednesday, he charged young boxers to shun smoking, alcoholism, womanising and other things which will derail their dreams.
According to him, boxers need to sleep early in order to wake up early in the morning to train, adding that womanising, hanging out and drinking, among others will make things rather challenging.
Braimah Kamoko further noted that “With boxing, if you smoke, engage in alcoholism and womanising, you cannot fight and become a world champion.”
“If you smoke, drink, and womanise, you cannot fight even if Jesus comes. To take your craft to the next level, desist from all of these,” he cautioned.
Touching on the death of Ernest Akushey, known in the boxing circles as Bahubali’s, Bukom Banku ‘Super’ said, he showed a lot of potential, but unfortunately met his untimely demise, when everyone least expected.
Braimah Kamoko noted that there are a lot of talented boxers in Ghana who need guidance and coaching to reach their full potential.
He also advised the National Sports Authority (NSA) to ensure a swift return to boxing and related activities because it was a source of employment for many people.
Against this backdrop, he charged the leadership to put in place measures that will sanitise the system and ensure strict compliance.
