The Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, has informed Parliament that compensation has been duly paid to families of two persons who were killed in the Ejura shooting incident in the Ashanti Region.
He said three persons who sustained injuries in the shooting were yet to receive their compensation.
According to the Minister, the compensation had been delayed as a result of the late submission of medical report from Ministry of Health to the Attorney-General’s Office, adding that he had been informed that the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Justice has received the medical report from the Komfo Anokye Hospital on injured persons to determine the parameters due the victims.
The Minister said these in response to a question posed to him in Parliament yesterday by Mohammed Bawah Braimah (NDC- Ejura-Sekyedumase), who sought to know when the compensation to the victims of the Ejura shooting incident would be paid.
Explaining further, he said after the three-man committee which was set up to investigate the unfortunate incident had submitted its report, his Ministry wrote to Ministry of Health informing them of the three persons that sustained various degrees of injuries.
He said the Ministry of Health subsequently requested that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital which attended to the victims, then submitted a report on the extent of injury to inform the decision on the quantum of compensation due them.
Mr Dery said after the Attorney-General Office had received the report, it then requested the Ministry of Health to set up a Medical Board to assess the current medical conditions of the three other injured persons, and to state any permanent disability as a consequence of the shooting incident.
He gave the assurance that the three victims would be compensated when all administrative processes have been completed.
