The Tamale District Magistrate court has remanded Mohammed Sualisu in police custody for ‘stealing’ electricity meters.
The court presided over by Amadu Issifu adjourned the case to September 10, 2021.
Sualisa, has been charged for stealing and unlawful tampering with electricity pre-paid meters, belonging to Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
Accused, who has been on the wanted list of the NEDCo for a long time, was grabbed by the police for stealing pre-paid meters.
Mr Alhassan Ababa, Public Relation Officer of NEDCo, told the Ghanaian Times that accused was arrested after removing two pre-paid meters in private homes in the Tamale metropolis, adding that an accomplice was at large.
He said “of late, some unscrupulous persons have been stealing pre-paid meters of the NEDCo. Many of our customers have complained that pre-paid in their homes have be stolen”.
Mr Ababa said “as a result of persistent complaints of stealing of meters of customers, the authority launched surveillance which led to the arrest of the suspect.”
He indicated that NEDCo was collaborating with the police to arrest people involved in stealing of electricity pre-paid meters.
Mr Ababa warned those engaged in such unlawful acts to desist from the practice, before the law catches up with them.
