With about three months to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election, the Convention Peoples Party, (CPP), the Peoples National Convention (PNC) and the Peoples National Party (PNP) have also elected their flagbearers for the polls.

The three Nkrumahist parties, would be facing off with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearers, and more than 20 other presidential hopefuls in a bid to win the presidential race.

At separate primaries last week, the three parties have expressed hope that they would dislodge the NDC and the NPP off the perch.

For the CPP, a former national chairperson, Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankumah, is the ideal flagbearer to lead the party into the elections.

She garnered 759 votes to beat private legal practitioner and historian, Yaw Anokye Frimpong, who polled 579 in the decentralised internal party contest.

Nana Kumankumah called for unity to propel the party to its first victory in the presidential election since Ghana returned to constitutional order in 1993.

“In every election, one person will emerge as the winner, and it is essential for us to stand together to ensure unity and cohesion. I thank all who voted for me and even those who did not. My victory was decisive and represents the voice of the masses,” she stated.

A former chairman of the PNC, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, on the other hand was elected the flagbearer of the PNC for the polls.

He polled 1,138 votes to beat 2020 flagbearer, David Apaseta who managed 216 votes in the two-horse race.

Having secured the ticket, Mr Mornah called on the rank and file of the party to unite and end the duopoly of the NDC and the NPP.

“Our plight is the same, hence our fight must be the same,” he told congress after being declared winner.

According to Mr Mornah, the battle to restore confidence in the Ghanaian democracy lied with the PNC.

“Let us celebrate tonight in modesty and get to work tomorrow. Ghana needs a new leader in the person of Bernard Mornah. Bernard Mornah offers a new direction for all Ghanaians,” he said.

The People’s National Party (PNP), a breakaway party from the PNC, has also settled on Janet Asana Nabla, a former General Secretary of the PNC, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 General Election.

“The PNP is pleased to announce that following a decisive meeting of the National Executive Committee on September 1, 2024, Ms Janet Asana Nabla has officially been confirmed as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming presidential election. Dr Edmund Ayesu has also been confirmed as the running mate,” the party said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Dr Hassan Ayariga, founder and flagbearer of the APC has named Dr Worlanyo Mensah as his running mate for the presidential polls.
