Disregard claims that we have endorsed Bawumia – NPP UK

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United Kingdom (UK) is urging Ghanaians to disregard reports that they have endorsed Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer for the political party.

In a statement issued and signed by its Branch Secretary, Mr Otuo Acheampong, the publication circulating on various media platforms titled, “NPP UK branch declares support for Dr Bawumia,” is frivolous and should be disregarded.

According to the statement, the NPP UK branch had not made an official declaration in support of any presidential candidate for the upcoming primaries.

“The purported publication in question is a complete fabrication, intended to mislead the public and sow confusion and disunity within our party.”

“The Branch Executive Committee has not engaged in any meeting directing or authorising the branch secretariat to issue any communique to that effect. We wish to state unequivocally that the old secretariat’s letterhead was forged and deceitfully utilised to mislead the public in Ghana and in the UK,” it added.

The group reassured of its commitment to maintaining neutrality in all activities regarding the upcoming presidential primaries within the political party by the end of they year, adding that the 12 representatives from the branch will individually cast their votes in secrecy and wholeheartedly support whoever ultimately becomes the party’s flagbearer.

Peaceful coexistence, the statement said, must remain paramount in every nation therefore the NPP UK will not encourage any moves to tarnish its hard earned reputation or cause any kind of disturbance in the political party and Ghana at large.
