The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fulfilled its promise to nine deserving Division One League (DOL) clubs following their success in the 2023-24 season.
At a short but impressive ceremony yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium, the FA, as part of the merit awards for the season-ending 2023/24 saw the top three teams from each of the three zones of the DOL received buses.
It was in fulfilment of a promise by the current FA administration to reduce transportation costs as well as improve their operational capacity while serving as a logistical boost.
The deserving clubs were first three in zones 1-3. They were Young Apostles FC, Basake Holy Stars, Vision FC, Techiman Heroes FC, New Edubiase FC, Okwawu United, Victory Club Warriors, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs, and Hohoe United.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, said the initiative was part of his outfit’s broader strategy to empower clubs and ensure sustainable development of the game in the country.
“This is to improve the clubs’ ability to participate in domestic and international competitions, as well as enhance their overall performance.”
According to him, the Bus Acquisition Strategy specifically was also to ensure comfortable transportation for the clubs and was firmly in line with the Association’s theme of ‘fixing the fundamentals’ of Ghana football.
He revealed that in the coming days, four Women’s Premier League Club would also have their turn in receiving their buses.
