The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a driver to three years imprisonment in hard labour for fraud.
Ebenezer Hayford denied conspiring with Twumasi and Patrick, his accomplices, at large, to defraud Mr Joseph Akwesi Adu, a dealer in vehicles and spare parts.
Police Chief Inspector Christine Bansah told the court that Mr Adu, the complainant, resided at Mallam, Accra, in the Greater Accra Region, whilst Hayford lived at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
She said Hayford told him he had a Howo Tipper Truck on sale at a vehicle garage, and the complainant became interested.
Chief Insp. Bansah told the court presided over by Mrs Susanna Eduful that Hayford took the complainant to a hotel on the Spintex Road, and introduced Twumasi and Patrick as owners of the truck.
The prosecution said the two men told the victim that the truck cost GH¢200,000.00 and the complainant paid for it.
Chief Insp. Bansah said after the payment, the two men pretended they were going to bring keyto the truck from their vehicle at the hotel’s car park, but escaped with the money, leaving behind the convict.
Prosecution said after sometime when the two men did not return, Hayford told complainant that he wanted to use the washroom, but the complainant became suspicious and asked a witness to escort the convict.
Chief Insp. Bansah said the complainant handed Hayford over to the police when he returned with the escort from the washroom. – GNA
