Early Childhood Edu Degree holders not eligible to teach SHS – GES

The Ministry of Education has explained that a degree in Early Childhood Education through Sandwich or Campus programme does not constitute eligibility for one to teach at a Senior High School (SHS).

This was contained in a press statement signed and issued by Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Director of Communications of the Minister of Education yesterday in Accra.

According to Mr Assafuah, the impression had been created over the years that, any degree qualified one to teach at the SHS even if the degree was tailored for teaching at the Kindergarten or Primary level saying “this is not accurate.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, a degree in a subject area whether through distance or campus programme, qualifies one to teach in a Senior High School, in addition to meeting other requirement set by National Teaching Council and Ghana Education Service (GES),”the statement added.

The statement said there were no policies by the ministry and the GES which disqualified teachers who earned their certificates through distance learning from teaching in public schools in the country.

It further appreciated the continuous efforts and contributions by teachers across the country.
