The Fallon Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Ayemoede Foundation, and Penyman Foundation, has marked World Menstrual Hygiene Day with donations of sanitary and personal care items to female inmates at the Nsawam and Akuse Female Prisons on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
At the Nsawam Female Prison, the group donated a 3-month supply of sanitary pads, washing detergents, bathing soaps, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
The Akuse Female Prison received a 6-month supply of sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and detergents.
The initiative aims to support the health, dignity, and wellbeing of incarcerated women and ensure they do not struggle through menstrual cycles without proper care.
The partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting women in prisons across Ghana and said they plan to adopt and visit more prisons to address menstrual hygiene challenges among inmates.
The Fallon Foundation and its partners are also appealing to the public to support the cause through an “Adopt a Prisoner” donation drive.
Individuals can contribute from GHS 25 monthly via the Foundation’s shortcode and donation links to provide sanitary pads and other essentials to female inmates nationwide.
“Together, we can restore dignity, promote hygiene, and remind every woman that she is seen, valued, and cared for,” the group stated.
