A 36-year-old farmer from Cape Coast, Christian Yao Akussah, is investing his GH¢20,000 prize from the Telecel M’ahitti Promo in his farm to improve his livelihood.
Mr Akussah, who has been a Telecel customer for about five years, said he had never participated in a promotional campaign before but decided to try the M’ahitti Promo because there was no cost to opt in.
He said he was surprised when Telecel informed him that he had won, explaining that he had simply been using his number as usual.
“Even when they called to tell me I had won, I didn’t believe it,” he said, describing the experience as “mind blowing”.
The Telecel M’ahitti Promo has so far produced 4,722 winners, including a customer from Yeji who won one million Ghana cedis earlier in September.
Presenting the GH¢20,000 prize to Mr Akussah through his Telecel Cash wallet, the Executive Head of Western and Central Regions of Telecel, Mr Samuel Gbadago, said the company was pleased that the prize would be used to support the farmer’s livelihood.
“Since we launched the Telecel M’ahitti promo, we have awarded four weekly winners from the Western and Central Regions and many more winners across the country.
“Christian’s win is very exciting for us because he is investing his win into his farm. As we are expecting the next One Million winner at the end of September, I am asking my Western and Central subscribers to opt into the Telecel M’ahitti promo by dialing 500# and continue using their Telecel number. Who knows the winner might just come from any of these regions,” he said.
Mr Akussah said the prize had come at an important time when he needed funds to invest in his farm.
“I needed funds to invest in my farm, and this prize has helped me do just that. I’m grateful to Telecel,” he said.
He said the experience had also encouraged him to tell others about the promotion.
“I can confidently tell people that this promo is real. I have won GH¢20,000, so I know it is not a scam,” he said.
The Telecel M’ahitti Promo, which has been running for six weeks, rewards 100 customers with GH¢100 each day and up to six customers with GH¢20,000 each week.
A second Telecel subscriber is expected to win one million Ghana cedis at the end of September, while a third subscriber will receive one million Ghana cedis at the end of October.
The promotion is regulated by the National Lottery Authority (NLA) under the Caritas platform.
