Farmer jailed 14 years for defiling 7-year-old girl

A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Samuel Kwofie, a 36 year old farmer from Bekawopa, near Jukwa Brafo in the Central Region, to 14 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling seven-year-old girl.Kwofie pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided by Mrs Dorinda Smith Arthur.Chief Inspector John Asare Bediako told the court that the complainant, Mr Baba Iddrisu, father of the victim, lives in the same vicinity with Kwofie at Bekawopa.

He said due to the COVID-19 restriction, a teacher, was asked to organize classes for children in the community.Chief Insp Bediako said the girl was returning home from classes when she met Kwofie, and he took her home and had sex with her.Prosecution said Kwofie after the act, warned the victim not to tell anyone about the matter or else she would die, but she returned home and complained to the mother about abdominal pains, and she was rushed to Jukwa Clinic and discharged.Chief Insp Bediako said when the victim’s pain worsened, she was rushed to the clinic again, but referred to the Cape Coast Metro Hospital.


He said during medical examination, the doctor detected that the girl has been defiled, and the victim narrated her ordeal to complainant.Chief Insp Bediako the case was reported to the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) where a police medical report form was issued to the victim to seek examination and treatment.He said Kwofie was arrested, cautioned and after investigations charged with the offence. -: GNA
