TALENTED Ghanaian female junior tennis player, Sisu Tomegah, has been unveiled as the first Ghanaian junior tennis talent to be sponsored by United States of America (USA) based New York Square LLC, a new partner of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).
As part of the sponsorship package, Tomegah would be on a rigorous one-year Elite Training Programme at the prestigious XS Tennis Academy in Chicago under the tutelage of Coach Kamau Murray, who is renowned for guiding Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens.
The GTF, in a press statement signed by its President, Mr Isaac Aboagye Duah, underlined that the Elite Training Programme would define Tomegah’s technique, strengthen her mental game, and prepare her for the global competitive stage.
Furthermore, the GTF noted that the sponsorship package places Tomegah in an environment that had produced champions and fostered excellence, both on and off the tennis court.
“This milestone marks a transformative moment in Ghana’s tennis development journey. Sisu’s selection is not only a proof of her exceptional talent, discipline, and potential, but also a reflection of the Federation’s commitment in supporting families that have shown dedication in investing in their wards’ tennis careers,” the statement said.
Additionally, the GTF highlighted that the Elite Training Programme aligns with its long-term vision to produce Ghana’s first top 200 Association of Tennis Professionals/Women’s Tennis Association (ATP/WTA) player by 2030 as outlined in the ‘Pupils to Professional’ pathway.
According to the GTF, the current national records of highest ATP/WTA rating stands at 277 and 274 for Frank Ofori and Henry Adjei-Darko, respectively.
That notwithstanding, the GTF remains optimistic that such records could be broken through the partnership with New York Square LLC.
The GTF expressed gratitude to the New York Square LLC for the sponsorship and acknowledged XS Tennis Academy for welcoming Sisu into their fold and providing a platform that ensured that her potential flourish.
The Federation again thanked Mr and Mrs Tomegah, parents of the player, for the investment made in her tennis career over the years.
It also pledged support to the player, saying, “As you begin this trailblasing role of carrying the hopes of the nation, we are confident that you will represent Ghana with honour, resilience, and excellence.”
The GTF urged the new generation of tennis players, coaches, and stakeholders to be inspired by the story of Sisu Tomegah to work harder, dream bigger, and believe in the power of Ghanaian tennis.
