Former President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Mr. George Haldane- Lutterodt has withdrawn a writ filed against the Ghana Athletics Association in an Accra High Court.
That was seen as a positive move as officials find ways to end the fracas in the association.
However, on appearance in
court on Tuesday, Mr. Haldane Lutterodt replaced the suit with a new one,
indicating that the case was far from over.
It’s the ninth time the two parties have
appeared in court since Lutterodt first dragged the country’s athletics
governing body to the courts in December last year.
Mr. Lutterodt accused the GAA of trying to
manipulate the electoral process to favour certain candidates in the
association’s elective congress originally scheduled for December 2018.
The legal action from the
former GAA boss meant the elections were put on hold, pending the hearing of
his injunction application.
However, the case has yet to be moved with both
parties trying and failing at an out of court settlement despite an
intervention by the National Sports Authority who set up a three-man committee
to oversee such.
At Tuesday’s hearing, Lutterodt and his lawyers
said they were filing a new writ and withdrawing the old one.
In the new writ, the
plaintiffs among other things want the court to sanction the setting up of an
Interim Management Committee to take over the running of athletics in the
country, while a final conclusion was sought.
The current president, Professor Francis Dodoo-led
administration’s tenure came to an end after March 2019.
