Foreign Affairs Ministry hosts 3rd ‘Family Day Out’

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday hosted the third edition of the ‘Family Day Out’ – an annual event that brings together the diplomatic community.

The event, which took place at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma, Accra, dubbed: “A Day with the Diplomatic Community”, brought together staff of Ghana’s Foreign Ministry and members of the diplomatic community (diplomats and their families) in sporting and cultural activities.

The day’s activities included games, cultural performances, and socialising, allowing families to come together and strengthen ties within the diplomatic community.

They competed in football, basketball, tennis, sack race, lime-and-spoon race, aerobics and a 50-metre race.

Participants were also served with varieties of meals ranging from foreign dishes to local dishes.

It was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), under the theme: ‘Unity in Diversity: Diplomacy through Culture and Sport.’

In an opening remark, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Gyakye Qyayson, emphasised the importance of unity in diversity, highlighting the role of culture and sport in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations.

The ‘Family Day Out,’ Mr Qyayson emphasised, served as a reminder that “diplomacy is not just about formal interactions but also about building personal relationships and fostering a sense of community.”

The Ambassador of Lebanon, who doubles as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Maher Kheir, commended the MFA for organising the event.

“May this day continue to strengthen the ties between Ghana and our nations,” he noted, adding that the day, “be memorable forever.”
