The Forestry Commission (FC) on Friday presented assorted equipment worth more than GH¢1.8 million to the Forestry Services Department and Wildlife Division in support of their operations.
The items procured from the Ghana Shea Landscape Restoration (GSLRP) Project included 42 motorbikes, 22 tricycles and 3,200 watering cans.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission, Mr John Allotey handing over the items in Accra, said these would be distributed to the North East, Upper East, Northern, Savannah and Upper West Regions.
Mr Allotey stated that the tricycles would help cart seedlings to sites, motorbikes for monitoring and the cans for watering of the seedlings.
The FC’s CEO commended the United Nations Development Fund, Ministry of Finance and the Global Shea Alliance for their support.
He thanked chiefs in the Savannah zones for supporting the project and called on the beneficiaries to use the equipment for its intended purposes.
The Executive Director of Wildlife Division of FC, Dr Joseph Boakye who received the items said “mobility and inspection were crucial in their work, hence the equipment would help the work on the field effectively.
Dr Boakye assured the management of the FC that the items would be used for its intended purpose.
