Mr Charles Bissue

Former presidential staffer and Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Mr Charles Bissue, has asked the High Court in Accra to halt his criminal trial by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The court will on October 26 hear his motion challenging the validity of the charges, which his lawyers contend are defective, incurably flawed and incompetent.

The OSP had earlier withdrawn charges against Mr Bissue and subsequently filed fresh charges.

The first trial, which began in July 2019, saw one of the accused persons, Thomas Andy Owusu, plead guilty and get convicted. Mr Bissue pleaded not guilty.

Mr Bissue and another accused are facing corruption-related charges and have pleaded not guilty.

The Criminal Division of the High Court granted them bail of GH¢200,000 each with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.
