GFA launches Women’s Premier Super Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the maiden Women’s Premier Super Cup which is set to take off from November 25 to December 5 at the MadinaAstro Turf Park.

The tournament, sponsored by Quality Insurance Company (QIC) will usher in the new league season.

It will pitch together four cracked teams each from both the Southern and Northern zone for the ultimate prize of GH¢15,000, a trophy and 30 gold medals.

The second placed team will receive GH¢8,000 plus 30 medals with the third placed team receiving GH¢5,000 plus 30 bronze medals.

There would be awards for the Best Player, Top Scorer, Best Goalkeeper as well as the Discovery of the Tournament.

The southern teams include Berry Ladies, Soccer Intellectuals, Lady Strikers FC and Hasaacas Ladies with Ampem Darkoa FC, Prisons Ladies, Ashtown Ladies FC and Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies coming from the North.

Speaking at the launch, the GFA President Kurt Okraku said women’s football in Ghana was gathering momentum, adding that,“commitment to straightening the game will see us dominate the world stage in the not too distant future.”

The competition is to be managed by a seven member committee to be chaired by Madam Barbara Asher Ayisi who promised to deliver a great tournament.

“The QIC Women’s Premier Super Cup is here to help us further develop female football in our country. Our core mandate is to have a successful maiden tournament.

“We want this Super Cup to be the best in the country so I plead with corporate bodies to come on board and support, encourage and motivate our women to give off their very best.”

Group A would have Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Prisons Ladies, Berry ladies and Soccer Intellectuals while Group B will have Hasaacas Ladies, Lady Strikers, Ashtown Ladies and Kumasi Sports Academy.
