GHANA stands firm and ready to enhance and strengthen the already cordial relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mr Magnus Kofi Amoatey, Ghana’s Ambassador to the DR Congo, has stated.
He said the Government of John Dramani Mahama cherished the strong bilateral relations between the two countries dating back to the DR Congo’s independence in 1960 when Ghana was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations.
Presenting his Letter of Credence to the Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi at the African Union City in Congo, Mr Amoatey disclosed that already the two countries have signed agreements on cooperation in areas like Agriculture, Education, Health and Energy as well as cooperating in various fronts including peacekeeping with Ghana contributing troops to the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the DRC.
He said the relations between the two countries are built on shared history and mutual interests, both with rich culture, similar traditions and influence in African music and called for expansion and collaborative efforts to foster cross-cultural knowledge and understanding for mutual growth and development.
The Ghanaian Diplomat was among Ambassadors from Lebanon, Qatar and a Special Representative of the African Union to officially present their credentials to the Congolese leader.
Ambassador Amoatey, a legal practitioner for over three decades, also served as a member of Parliament for the Yilo Krobo Constituency from 2013 to 2017.
