TO mark the 2026 International Mother Language Day (IMLD), the Ghana Library Authority, with support from the Creative Arts Agency, is hosting its maiden Library Conversation under the theme “Language Preserved on Pages.”

The event will focus on the role of books, particularly the translation of literary works into indigenous languages, as a vital tool for preserving and promoting Ghanaian languages.

Designed to spotlight Professor Ladé Wosornu’s translated poems, the programme will feature a panel discussion with Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba; Dr Sarah Dorgbadzi, Senior Lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana; and Mr Richardson Fio Commey, Policy Expert and Special Aide to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

A statement issued in Accra yesterday by the organisers said: “The conversation will be complemented by performances and readings of the translated poems, as well as a one-on-one interaction with Professor Wosornu.”

The special guest of honour will be Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Ghana.

He will be joined by Mr Edmond Moukala, Country Representative of UNESCO in Ghana; the Acting Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency, Mr Gideon Aryeequaye; and other dignitaries.

“Language Preserved on Pages” will take place at the main conference hall of the Ghana Library Authority Headquarters on Friday.
