A CONTINGENT of 70, made up of athletes and officials drawn from 15 sports disciplines, left Ghana yesterday for the 2025 Africa Youth Games to be held in Angola on December 10–20.
Ghana is represented by promising young athletes between ages 14 and 17, representing the future of Ghanaian sports. They will compete against the finest youth talent across the African continent, a statement from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Communications team stated.
“This mission to Luanda 2025 is a strong, coordinated partnership between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the GOC. Our shared goal is to provide our talented youth with the best opportunities for international exposure and growth. We are investing in their future by sending a fully supported team that is ready to compete at the highest level,” stated GOC President, Richard Akpokavie Esq.
The GOC commended the Minister of Sports and Recreation and the government for the powerful display of unified national commitment to sports development, by fully supporting this course.
Team Ghana, led by Kamal Sulley, will compete in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Fencing, Golf, Judo, Karate, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, and Weightlifting, as part of the country’s mission to maximise its presence and medal prospects at the continental event.
The African Youth Games is a major multisport competition organised by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). The Games serve as a vital continental stepping stone for young athletes, promoting Olympic values and preparing them for major international events, including the Youth Olympic Games.
The statement urged Ghanaians to rally behind the talented young athletes as they prepare to raise the Ghana flag in Angola.
