The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Western Region, has honoured 12 journalists and seven corporate organisations for excellence in journalism and corporate social investment.
The 2026 Media and CSI Awards, held in Takoradi on Saturday, were themed: “Reporting Progress: Investing in People.”
Juliet Aguiar Dugbartey of the Business and Financial Times received awards for trade and customs investigative reporting, while Mrs Mildred Siabi-Mensah of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) was recognised for gender, social inclusion and environmental policy reporting.
Nana Esi Brew Monney of Space FM, Tarkwa, was honoured for climate and education reporting, with Emmanuel Gamson of the GNA receiving an award for marine conservation.
Other awardees included Hajia Fati Karim of Empire FM/GHOne for health reporting; Ebenezer Atiemo of Connect FM/TV3 for mining and environmental sustainability; Charles Egyir of UTV for crime and legal affairs; and Portia Nana Yaa Cudjoe of Connect 97.1 FM for agricultural affairs reporting.
Clement Adzei Boye of the Ghanaian Times and three others received distinguished development journalism awards.
Benjamin Ashirifi Fifi Quarcoo of the Electricity Company of Ghana was honoured for excellence in media-stakeholder engagement, while Yaaba Nyamek received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Gabriel Frimpong of Multimedia was recognised for valour and dedicated service.
KEDA Ghana (Twyford) Ceramics Company Limited was recognised for local employment and skills development, while the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Takoradi, was honoured for sustainable port operations.
Ghana Gas was honoured for local content development; Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Outstanding Corporate Citizen; Damang Gold Mine Limited, CSI Innovation; ECG, Most Responsive Utility Service Provider; and Justmoh Construction Limited, Community Infrastructure.
Former Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, urged companies to move beyond one-off donations and cheque presentations towards investments that created lasting impact.
He said businesses depended on society for their workforce and resources and had a responsibility to support development.
Mr Duker urged journalists to scrutinise corporate spending and hold companies accountable for their environmental responsibilities.
Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, said sustainable development depended on credible information and investment in people, urging journalists to uphold accuracy, fairness and balance.
GJA Regional Chairman, Desmond Cudjoe, said the media remained a watchdog and defender of public interest.
The President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, urged journalists to be bold and become the “voice” of Western Region.
