The Greater Accra Regional Fire Command has inspected fire hydrants around Makola Market and parts of High Street as part of efforts to strengthen fire response in Accra’s busiest commercial enclave.
The exercise, led by ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, was carried out in collaboration with the Inspection Unit of Ghana Water Limited (GWL).
According to the Command, the inspection was to assess the availability and operational readiness of hydrants in the densely populated market area a zone that has recorded recurring fire outbreaks over the years.
Officials say ensuring that hydrants are functional and accessible is critical to reducing response time and preventing large-scale destruction of lives and property.
The collaboration, they noted, underscores the joint commitment of the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Water Limited to enhancing public safety in the capital.
