GOC inducts 10 c’ttees …to spearhead sports devt, Olympic, C’wealth sports

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Sports – Ghana, have inaugurated 10 com­mittees to spearhead sports development, Olympic and Commonwealth Sport Movement in Ghana.

The committees have a primary goal of promoting sports devel­opment, especially in schools and grassroots while empowering women and female athletes’ participation in sports.

The committees include Legal, Marketing, Fundraising and Spon­sorship, Olympic Education, Culture and School Sports, Games and Technical, and National Federations Relations.

The rest are Medical and An­ti-Doping, Events and Programmes, Finance, Women in Sports, and Gov­ernment Relations and Stakeholders Committee.

At a brief ceremony to swear-in the members of the committee, Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Mawuko Afadzinu thanked the members for responding to the call to serve, and urged them to be dedicated and remain focused in promoting the GOCs interest.

He acknowledged the demanding nature of the task ahead, and ex­pressed confidence that the members appointed would demonstrate true leadership, resilience and collabora­tion throughout their tenure.

He congratulated the members and added that, “You are now at the forefront of shaping the future of the Olympic Movement and sports in Ghana.”

Chairman for the Government Relations sub-committee, Mr Kobby Woyomi, speaking on behalf of the general membership, indicated that they’re happy to be associated and working with the Olympic Commit­tee and that they will use their experi­ence and network to influence sports development in Ghana.

Also present at the inauguration was Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankra, Direc­tor General of the National Sports Authority.

National Federations Relations Committee-George Owusu Ansah, Delphina Quaye, George Tettey, Philip Ameku, Rafiq Mohammed Arthur.

Government Relations and Stake­holders Committee-Wisdom Kobina Woyome, Bernard Mornah, Aurora Commodore-Toppar, Richmond Quarcoo, Ali Shaib Tanko.

Women in Sports Commis­sion-Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bon­nie, Mrs Joyce Mahama, Madam Elizabeth King, Helena Williams, Christiana Ashley, Delphina Quaye, Rafatu Inusah, Phillipina Frimpong, Rita Odei Asare, Cathrine Tukpe and Ayishatu Farida Iddriss.

Finance Committee- Mawuko Af­adzinu, Evans Yeboah, Edward Nii Lante Bannerman, Ato Van-Ess, Julie Asante, Rodney Oddoye and Robert Yeboah Amponsah.
