The Savannah Regional Minister, Mr Sualisu Be-Awuribe, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that rural communities in the region receive their fair share of development.

He said the Regional Coordinating Council was working closely with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to ensure that rural communities received the development they deserved.

Mr Be-Awuribe made the statement at the region’s maiden “Accounting to the People” series organised by the East Gonja Municipal Assembly last Thursday.

He said transparency and accountability to the people were among the government’s top priorities, adding that accountability remained key to promoting good governance and sustainable development at the local level.

According to him, accelerating development across Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) would remain a major priority of the government.

He said transparency and accountability to citizens were essential for effective participation in local governance.

Mr Be-Awuribe said the East Gonja Municipal Assembly had, through its mandate, constructed a number of schools, clinics, roads and boreholes, as well as implemented other social interventions in the municipality.

He said the assembly would continue to engage stakeholders and account to the people on its activities and use of public resources.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahim, commended the assembly for embracing the accountability initiative, saying it provided an opportunity for authorities to account to residents and other stakeholders for their stewardship.

She urged the assembly to continue delivering on its mandate, stressing that transparency was essential for building public trust and ensuring the proper management of public resources.

Hajia Zuwera said public officials were entrusted with responsibilities to serve the people and must, therefore, account to them for their stewardship within the local governance system.

She appealed to the assembly to sustain the initiative to strengthen public confidence and trust.

The East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kassim Rabiu Yazid, assured residents that the assembly would continue to ensure that public resources entrusted to it were used efficiently to improve their lives.

He said the assembly would also ensure that development projects reached communities across the municipality.

Mr Yazid appealed to residents to work closely with the assembly as it continued to roll out projects aimed at improving their living conditions.
