Govt tackles galamsey head-on: Lands Minister unveils secretariat …to coordinate efforts at cracking down on illegal mining

 The government has un­veiled a National Anti-Ille­gal Mining Operations Sec­retariat (NAIMOS), a centralised body mandated to coordinate the fight against illegal mining, popu­larly known as galamsey.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanu­el Armah-Kofi Buah, with the assistance and collaboration of the Interior Minister, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, inaugurated the secretari­at in Accra last Thursday.

The newly established intelli­gence-led Secretariat will serve as the central command for all an­ti-galamsey operations nationwide, addressing longstanding challenges of uncoordinated enforcement efforts.
