The 2024/25 batch of National Service Personnel (NSPs) of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has undertaken a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support quality healthcare delivery at the Tema General Hospital (TGH).

As part of GRIDCo’s tradition, each year’s NSPs are tasked to implement CSR project that leaves a lasting social impact. The initiative not only benefits communities in which GRIDCo operates, but also instils in the young graduates a sense of leadership, service and responsibility beyond their one-year national service period.

After a series of stakeholder engagements, the 2024/25 NSPs, with support from GRIDCo’s management, chose to assist TGH with critical health and medical equipment to enhance patient care and improve the working conditions of healthcare providers.

Items donated included 13 crank manual beds, 13 hospital mattresses, one dental chair, five drip stands, one steel patient trolley, one compressor patient trolley, and two blood pressure machines.

The GH¢280,000 project was jointly funded through self-imposed monthly contributions by the NSPs and additional corporate support from GRIDCo.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, President of the 2024/25 GRIDCo NSPs, Keziah Ewurama Nuamah Nyarko, said the group was proud to contribute to saving lives through their modest effort.

“This project reflects GRIDCo’s support in communities where it operates. We, the NSPs, are proud to contribute to saving lives and improving the conditions of the Tema General Hospital with our widow’s mite,” she said.

Director of Human Resources at GRIDCo, Isaac Issahaku Mumuni, commended the personnel for their dedication and initiative.

“I commend our NSPs for showing that service is not just about fulfilling a duty, but about leaving a lasting impact. Their passion and effort are demonstrated in the execution of a health initiative which positively impacts lives. I appreciate the Management of TGH for giving the NSPs a chance to support the hospital,” he noted.

The donation, which reflects GRIDCo’s core value of care, compassion, responsibility and service to society, is expected to strengthen the hospital’s overall capacity to serve the community.

GRIDCo reiterated its commitment to delivering Ghana’s power transmission needs while actively supporting the communities it serves through initiatives like this.

The medical director of TGH, Dr Ralph Armah, described the gesture as thoughtful of the NSPs, noting that the equipment would help bridge the medical equipment deficit of the hospital and help improve health care delivery in Tema and its environs.

He called on other corporate organisations, NGOs and philanthropist to emulate the gesture to enable the hospital deliver on its mandate as the referral public hospital in the Tema catchment area.
