England have been dealt a huge World Cup injury scare with captain Harry Kane to undergo an ankle scan.
The Three Lions captain looked in considerable pain after Morteza Pouraliganji’s tackle in the second half of Monday’s victory against Iran.
Kane stayed on the pitch until the 75th minute when he was replaced by Callum Wilson.
The 29-year-old was involved in an indoor recovery session on Tuesday, a development that was viewed as positive news.
But Kane is due to undergo further examination on the joint ahead of tomorrow’s clash against the USA.
“It now remains to be seen whether he trains with the rest of his team-mates, though the FA played down the injury scare on Tuesday.
Kane left the Khalifa Stadium on Monday night with light strapping on the ankle and with a slight limp.
After the game head coach Gareth Southgate said: ‘I think Harry’s fine. It looked like a bad tackle but he carried on in the game. We took him off because we felt it was a moment in the game we could do that.’
But England are now facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of Kane’s ankle concern. –Mailsports
