Headmaster worried over abandoned project

Headmaster of Saint John’s Grammar Senior High School, Dr Edmond Kojo Fianu, is worried about an abandoned two-storey girl’s dormitory project meant to address accommodation deficit in the school.

He lamented that, the project which started 10 years ago by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) remained uncompleted after several petitions from the school to the Ghana Education Service and GETFund.

“The school is facing accommodation challenges; this project which was funded by the GETFund was our only hope to address the situation, after 10 years the project is still incomplete,” Dr Fianu stressed.

He expressed these sentiments on Friday, when the 1988 Old Students Association presented 400 durable plastic chairs to their alma mater.

Dr Fianu revealed that “the dormitory facility, which is almost at its completion stage and is gradually becoming weak following frequent rainfall on the structure, when completed can house 400 students,” and appealed to the GETFund and the Ministry of Education to come to their aid to forestall any unforeseen circumstances

“The school is also facing major desks deficit; a situation hindering teaching and learning, desk deficit is also another major challenge because students do not handle the desks well which makes the desks break easily and as I speak, we have 1,000 desks deficits.

“We have enough dining hall chairs and benches, classrooms with inadequate desks use those chairs and benches to learn as we await additional desks,” Dr Fianu lamented.

The President of the 1988 year group, Daniel Akuffo, said the presentation followed a request from the school to the association and old students had over the years supported and assisted the school with infrastructure development such as the construction of a sickbay for the students.
