A National Rapid Response Team has been deployed to the Upper West Region to strengthen surveillance and response measures following an outbreak of yellow fever, the Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed.
He said that, as of Tuesday, October 7, 2026, three cases had been confirmed, while 74 suspected cases had been recorded in the region.
Nationwide, about 450 suspected cases had been recorded between June and September this year.
“With yellow fever, the guideline is that when you record more than one or two, it’s enough to declare an outbreak, but it is not out of hand.
“Let us go slow on pressing the panic buttons and take information from the official sources only,” the Minister urged.
Mr Akandoh was speaking at an engagement with key stakeholders on the priorities, progress, challenges and way forward for the health sector in Accra yesterday.
He said that, in addition to deploying the response team to the northern part of the country, affected health facilities had been demarcated and appropriate isolation measures put in place. Read More
