The Health Service Administrator of Abokobi Health Centre, Joyce Mawuse Adams has appealed to individuals and other stakeholders to help stockpile the facility with PPE and other medical consumables in order to strengthen their fight against COVID-19.
According to her, the facility was currently handicapped financially as it had spent all its internally generated funds in purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to secure its staff during the outbreak.
Ms Adams made the appeal during a donation exercise by Abokobi Rural Bank to the health centre on Thursday in Accra.
The items donated included; Veronica buckets, cartons of liquid soap, gun thermometres, hand gloves, nose masks, paper tissues and hand sanitisers.
It was to support the clinic in the fight against the novel coronavirus following an appeal for more personal protective equipment by the Health Directorate for frontline staff of its facilities.
She said the fight against the novel coronavirus needed collaborative efforts by all stakeholders, adding that the government had done its best but could not do it alone, thus the appeal.
Ms Adams thanked the management of Abokobi Rural Bank for their gesture, saying these vital supplies would enhance the activities of the health centre to speed up service delivery.
She promised to use the items for its intended purpose and tackle the pandemic to compliment the government’s effort.
Presenting the items, Mabel Nartey, Acting General Manager of Abokobi Area Rural Bank commended the staff of the clinic for the sacrifices made to increase public awareness on the dangers of the disease.
She explained that the bank donated the PPE to support the frontline staff in the fight against the spread of the pandemic as well as help the clinic to achieve its goal of providing efficient and effective health care delivery.
Ms Nartey expressed optimism that the items satisfied the immediate demands of the clinic for improved health delivery and assured of more support for the betterment of the clinic.
She also promised her outfit’s support to security agencies and market women in the catchment area, adding that “our next donation will be for them” and urged them to continue saving with the bank.
