The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged Human Resource (HR) professionals to embrace strategic leadership roles to drive innovation, manage change, and promote productive workplace cultures in a rapidly evolving global economy.
He said HR practitioners must move beyond traditional administrative functions and become key contributors to organisational growth by attracting talent, developing employees, and fostering innovation.
He made this statement at the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) 2026 conference under the theme: ‘Advancing Human Resource Excellence in Ghana: Leadership, Technology and Governance.’
Delivering the speech on behalf of the Minister of Education, the Director of Pre-Tertiary Education, Mr Stephen Owusu, said leadership, technology, and governance were critical pillars for advancing human resource excellence and building resilient, future-ready institutions.
He described effective leadership as critical to organisational success and sustainable development, noting that strong leadership provides the vision and direction needed to navigate an increasingly complex business environment.
He urged practitioners to strengthen collaboration, uphold integrity, and invest in continuous learning to advance human resource development in Ghana.
The Chief HR officer at MTN, Ghana, Ms Esi Wilson, urged professionals to take the lead in preparing organisations and employees for the rapidly evolving era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation
“The question is no longer whether AI will transform work. It already has. The real question is whether our people and organisations are ready to lead that transformation,” she stated.
Ms Wilson stated that according to the 2025 Future of Jobs Report by the World Economic Forum, labour market disruptions are projected to affect 22 per cent of existing jobs by 2030, with millions of new roles expected to be created as technological advancements reshape industries and workforce demands.
According to her, organisations must invest in reskilling, digital literacy, and adaptive talent strategies while ensuring responsible AI adoption through sound governance and ethical practices.
She urged HR practitioners to position themselves as leaders of transformation and create workplaces that empower employees to thrive in a technology-driven future.
