Inadequate shelters hamper human trafficking victims’ rehabilitation — IJM

The inadequate number of government shelters for victims of human trafficking is undermining efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate survivors into society, International Justice Mission (IJM) Ghana has said.

The Communication Lead of IJM Ghana, Mr Ernest Kojo Manu, said although the government’s National Action Plan on Human Trafficking provided for the establishment of shelters in all 16 regions, only three government-owned shelters were currently available across the country.

He said the situation made it difficult to provide adequate care and support for victims and survivors of human trafficking, particularly those requiring safe accommodation and rehabilitation.

Mr Manu made the remarks at a training workshop organised by IJM Ghana for members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) in Accra on Monday. Read More
