As part of activities to celebrate this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival, the Central Regional Boxing Federation will stage regional boxing championship involving four regions.
The four regions include the host Central, Greater Accra, Volta and Western regions; all expected to present teams for female, juvenile and the main championship.
Consequently, the regional boxing federation has extended appeals for support to a number of corporate institutions to stage the championship.
Mr Twintoh Walker, Chairman of the regional boxing federation, told the Times Sports yesterday that the event to be under the auspices of the National Sports Authority and the Cape Coast Youth Development Association, has been endorsed by the Afahye Planning Committee of the Oguaa Traditional Council.
He said previous championships have added spice to the celebration were bent on improving it but would need sponsors to come on board.
Meanwhile, a team from the Cape Coast Youth Development Association (CCYDA) and the regional boxing outfit led by its Vice President, Mr Francis Kingsley Arthur, called on the Chief Executive Chairman of JL Properties, Dr James Orleans-Lindsay, to officially invite him and also seek his support for the event.
The team also presented a C/R-GBF branded Lacoste to officially ask him to be part of the event.
According to Mr Arthur, Dr Orleans-Lindsay had shown interest in the event which will in a way support his vision for youth development in the Cape Coast Metropolis and the region in general.
Other members of the team include Akosua Pomaah Abebrese, Executive Assistant to Dr Orleans-Lindsay, Rev. Kobina Spio–Garbrah and Mr Cole Arthur, both members of the CCYDA and Nana Benya Bee, a boxing trainer.
