Former President John Dramani Mahama yesterday picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries in preparation for 2024 general elections.

Professor Joshua Alabi, former national campaign chairman of the 2020 national campaign team of the party, picked the nomination forms on behalf of Mr Mahama.

The former president was the first to pick his form at the party headquarters at Adabraka, in Accra after the NDC opened the nomination yesterday.

Professor Alabi addressing the media and the teeming supporters who thronged the party office indicated that the country was in difficult times, the people were suffering and “are crying for the NDC to come back that is why they convinced the former President to come to the rescue of the country”.

He said “Mr Mahama is the one who had done it before, he is humble and has experience to implement people-centered policies to address the challenges”.

Adding, “We can’t allow this worsening situation to continue, the NDC has gone through all the structures and elections, it is time to turn the country’s fortunes to its former glory after 2024,” he added.

“We are here to pick his forms, we are not only working for him or the NDC but for the people of Ghana, I am very confident come 2025 the NDC will form a new government,” Professor Alabi stressed.

Another Presidential hopeful, Ernest Kwaku Kobeah, who was the second to pick his nomination forms indicated that when elected as flagbearer and eventual winner of the 2024 general elections, he would first establish an insurance package for all members of the party and also create jobs through the implementation of several sanitation modules for the people.

He indicated that agriculture would be mechanised and modernised to attract the youth to take up agriculture as a profession instead of as a hobby.

Mr Kobeah commended the party for giving everyone the opportunity to contest the primaries and assured of his support for the eventual winner towards a resounding victory for the party in 2024.

The former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu, also picked the nomination forms to contest the upcoming presidential primaries of the NDC.

The forms were picked on his behalf by his representative, Reverend Lilian Osei.

She explained that Mr Bonsu had promised to do a good job if given the mandate.

Bismark Tetteh, one of the three representing Mr Bonsu said his boss was a man of action and not a populist, someone who liked to work rather than having the crowd making all the noise around him.

The picking of the nomination forms will officially end on Friday.

The final contest for the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the NDC will be conducted on May 13, 2023 and would exclude some 27 constituencies that have identified problems.

While a presidential candidate will pay GH¢ 30,000 for the forms, aspiring Parliamentary candidates are to pick their forms at the cost of GH¢5000.
