MR Stanley Bedze, the Physical Planning Officer of the Kadjebi District, has appealed to residents to support efforts aimed at controlling infrastructure development in the district to ensure orderly growth.
He said proper land demarcation, well-designed layouts, and appropriate documentation would help prevent land litigation and promote the development of well-planned residential areas.
Mr Bedze made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He explained that physical planning in the district was guided by three key planning tiers: the Spatial Development Framework (SDF), which covers the entire district; structure plans for towns and villages; and local plans, which involve detailed plan sketches and layouts.
According to him, the availability and effective implementation of these planning tools would enable authorities to regulate development and reduce the incidence of unauthorised structures.
“If we have these plans in place and people adhere to them, then we can control development effectively,” Mr Bedze stated.
He stressed that the core mandate of the Physical Planning Department was development control and urged residents, landowners, and traditional authorities to collaborate with the department before undertaking any form of construction.
Mr Bedze further cautioned that failure to comply with approved planning layouts often resulted in encroachment on public lands, road reservations, and waterways, posing long-term challenges to community development.
He encouraged residents to seek guidance from the Physical Planning Department and the District Assembly to ensure that development activities conformed to approved plans for the overall benefit of the district.
