THE La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has initiated a number of development projects to improve infrastructure and educational outcomes, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Ibrahim Fuseini Faila, has indicated.
The projects, he mentioned, included an 18-unit classroom block for the Babayara Community School that comes with a clinic, a nurse’s quarters and a mosque.
The rest of the facilities also being undertaken are the first phase of the 18-unit classroom block for the Pantang Hospital Basic School which is at the lintel level, the rehabilitation of the Madina Estates inner roads and the construction of a Zonal Council Office at Oyarifa.
The Pantang Junction–Abokobi road project, he noted, is also about 60 per cent complete with contractors, Messrs Awerco Construction Company, working on the major drains and culverts to expand access in order to prevent the perennial flooding of the road at the slightest rain.
This came to light when Alhaji Faila toured the project sites yesterday in order to have a first-hand information on the progress of work and interact with the contractors towards taking a decision to address issues accounting for its delay.
Satisfied with the output of the contractors, he assured them of his maximum support to ensure that the projects were all completed ahead of schedule.
According to him, expanding access to educational infrastructure would help improve teaching and learning, especially at the Babayara Basic School, which is always flooded after the slightest rain leading to the disruption of academic work.
All the educational facilities, the MCE stated, would come with a headmaster’s bungalow, an ICT laboratory, a staff common room, library, washroom, as well as changing rooms.
He expressed optimism that after nine months the area would see a significant facelift.
Alhaji Faila noted that all 15 electoral areas needed urgent infrastructure development and with the support of the Member of Parliament of the area and the chiefs, the Assembly would deliver.
“I am assuring every electoral area of their fair share of development projects, in line with the shared vision and commitment of President John Dramani Mahama, we shall deliver,” he stated.
Touching on the Pantang Hospital Basic School, he indicated that the school was first housed in one of the structures of the hospital, which was inconveniencing the authorities, prompting them to offer a parcel of land to relocate the school.
The MCE explained further that all the projects are being funded by the common fund and the Assembly’s internally generated funds, except the Babayara Basic School and clinic, which is being constructed by the Qatari Foundation.
